Recovering from Cesarean

I have been recovering very well, much better than I thought actually. From the next day after Euan was born, I had my handbag removed (Grace, a lady who had a c-section the same day as I did used to call the catheter bag this to feel more glam - given we were still wearing the hospital gown with the opening at the back) I got out of bed went for a shower. It hurts a bit to get in and out of bed but as long as I could walk around it's good enough for me.

On the second day both baby and I were discharged from hospital. I was given pain relief to last for ages and some blood thinning injections. The trip home was not too bad but I didn't feel very well - could feel my insides going from left to right and v.v. with every road bend. When we got home, I just wanted to sleep.

The next day the midwife visited us home and weighed Euan who has lost few grams after birth - this is normal. She had a look at my stitches and said they are healing well. In two days' time another midwife will be coming home to remove them.

When the stitches were removed (they were actually like a thread with two beads at the end - she cut one bead and pulled the other one out slowly taking with it the nylon thread) I felt even better and the cut didn't feel sore anymore. I could come in and out of bed and sitting down and standing up more comfortably now. The baby was weighed and he had already started gaining weight.

Yesterday was the midwife's last visit, she weighed the baby again and he has gained 300 grams! He's feeding just on breast milk - great. We were discharged from the midwife's home care and I will take him to the walk in centre every week to weigh him from now on.

A week and a half on from the c-section I feel very well. I still have a bruise just above the incision and my jelly belly's getting better every day. I can still feel a bit of pain when I sneeze or cough but it gets better every day.

We're still adjusting to the new routines and I haven't got used to waking up every 3 hours or so every night for feeding and nappy changing. The baby has started to cry more now and it's quite difficult to calm him down when he's crying for no reason at all. I'm hoping we'll get used to the screaming and that it will get easier by time.
