Re-decorating Euan's room

Tuesday, 13 July 2010 10:00 by Mari

The main project right now is to spring clean Euan's room and re-decorate it to make it look a bit more interesting for a little man.  The theme is going to be jungle animals.

We had got some window gel stickers as a present and we're going to fix those to the window. I bought these wall stickers from Amazon.co.uk and they look great. Best of all they are removable so if we decide to move we can stick them on the new nursery. They retail at a very competitive price compared to other wall stickers and the package includes 21 jungle characters including Monkey (16cm), Tiger (20.7cm), Flamingo (14cm), Elephant (22cm), Lion (21.2cm), Tortoise (10cm) and scene setters - parrots, leaves, dragonfly, tufts of grass, paw prints and a pair of peeping eyes.

There is also a double bed in his room which we are going to transform into a play corner for him. I got a colourful sheet which we can use and put all his soft toys on there until he's ready to start using it. I still need to think about how I'm going to make it safe for him though so if you have any ideas I will appreciate your comments.

personally i think the best way is to make sure they know how to go down from a bed or a chair. The start climbing really fast and for a while you make sure you show them how to go down (feet first with belly "in") and once they know you can relax a bit

Hi,
Those wall stickers are great. Martha has of Winnie the Pooh (although she's already complaining that Winnie is for babies).  The gel stickers did not work for us though.  They were ok at first but when the weather started to change, they started to melt.  They ended up as a fly catcher instead as flies and mosquitos got stuck to it!!!!.  Had to use oil to clean the gel from the window.  As regards playing time, I used to find the foam carpet (the jigsaw puzzle one) the best place for Martha to play on rather than on a bed.

Thanks Jan. I wish they would melt here as that means we're having a decent summer! ;)

Seems like it's an African jungle you're having there. I myself was looking for some inspiration ideas for an Amazon atmosphere and these are some suggestions which might inspire you too:
1] Stickers of animal footprints forming a trail from one piece of furniture to the next.
2] Textures and animal prints for cushion or pillow covers to decorate the bed or maybe to put on a chair or armchair in the room.
3] A lampshade or a curtain with animal patterns or colours, the more colourful (such as the macaw or guacamayo feather colours), the more interesting light effects created around the room.
4] Think about door handles, knobs... too. What about claws or paws to grip on when opening a drawer?
5] Shelves could be covered or painted with an animal or jungle pattern. The book collection and decoration in the shelves could be wisely thought of too. In this case The Jungle Book is a must. If you're putting Jungle animal soft toys on the shelf, the shelf could be painted in a leafy design. (Same could be done with a bed covering sheet if jungle animal soft toys are going on it.) The baby's photos could be put in an animal or animal pattern frame. And what about some ropes hanging from one shelf to the other like a Tarzan or Indiana Jones effect movie?

Hope I could be of help ;)
