Getting Ready for Baby

Thursday, 3 May 2012 14:45 by Mari

This week I had another appointment with the midwife and she measured my tummy which is growing nicely but not too much which is great. She said I should start putting things together for hospital (already!). It's a reminder of how fast this third trimester will go by.

I will have to see what clothes, blankets and other baby stuff I have from when E was a baby and see what we need to get.

I got this new thing called Gunapod which is an innovative wearable fleece blanket, featuring a simple layout of zippers and snaps that is easy to adjust into numerous configurations:

• If you need to change baby’s nappy or simply want to leave restless legs out to kick, just unzip the bottom.
• The various combinations are also great for temperature regulation – unzip and unsnap as you please.
• It doesn’t matter if your little one has fallen asleep before bed time, simply fully unzip the Gunapod, lay baby down, and zip back up to ensure no disruptions to their rest.

It came in a glossy box and wrapped in colourful tissue paper so it makes a really nice gift too. It is so cuddly and cosy I look forward to put it on the little one when he arrives!

Blankets

This is the right time of year to snuggle up with a blanket in bed or on the sofa watching a good DVD. Kids love it too.

I just received a nice knitted blanket from Lilly and Sid (http://www.lillyandsid.com). They have a good range of baby blankets that can be used also in the pram or pushchair. All the blankets are 100% cotton, machine washable and made in England. This is a family-run business that has a good website selling also bright coloured clothes, baby toys and also gift boxes. They have been kind enough to provide all our readers with a 15% off anything when you enter the code 'firstbabyblog' at the discount codes section in the shopping cart.

Another good website I came about is http://www.yourmoonbaby.com. This is led by an art degree student with a great love of fabric. I find these blankets are aimed at slightly older kids.

A New Beginning

Oh Hello again all of you! I know, I know, I haven't written in ages... But I have good news... Euan's moved out, out of our bedroom into his very own room.

Since then, life has been so much easier! He's no longer very grumpy during the day and he now sleeps the whole night. The health visitor suggested it and it worked. She said once you put the baby down in the cot, stay with him and reassure him (e.g. by a Shhh sound) and pat him on his tummy. Do this until he stops crying. If he cries hysterically, lift him up and start again. If he wakes up during the night, do the same thing.

In the evening after bath time Euan and I go to his room and read stories and play for a while. Then as the clock strikes 20, we put Euan in his cot and he plays there for a while and falls asleep. It's been a bit hard in the beginning as he used to start crying as soon as he starts to fall asleep but after two weeks the crying stopped and he's one happy baby. Apparently this method is called "Gradual Withdrawal".

He usually sleeps through the night and wakes up at 7 or 8 in the morning.

We got a baby monitor from Amazon for him and it's been great 10/10 points for BT 150 Digital Baby Monitor. It feels like you're still in the room with the baby.

I still cannot believe how early he moved out of our room. I missed him at first, but now that I sleep the whole night too I don't have time to miss him that much, although I run to his room for a cuddle as soon as he wakes up in the morning!
