Cool Bibs from Funky Giraffe Bibs

Wednesday, 24 August 2011 15:08 by Mari

I came across these cool bandana bibs. They're from Funky Giraffe Bibs (http://www.funkygiraffebibs.co.uk) and they've got lots and lots of different designs with nice bright colours that go really well with kids clothing. Apart from practical they are also stylish accessories that don't hide what the baby is wearing and they don't get in the way.
Since they don't cover the whole front I do not use them during dinnertime with messy meals. However they are perfect to wear for the whole day and they are super absorbent.

Their material is nice and soft which makes them comfortable to wear for long periods of time. They do not stain easily - I have washed them a number of times and they remained intact. To be honest, I dried them in the tumble dryer and they came out as good as new.

I definitely recommend these bibs as they sell at a very reasonable price and the more you buy the better the discount you get. Also, the staff at funky giraffe bibs are very friendly and helpful so you can email them any comments or suggestions you might have.

A New Beginning

Monday, 22 March 2010 11:47 by Mari

Oh Hello again all of you! I know, I know, I haven't written in ages... But I have good news... Euan's moved out, out of our bedroom into his very own room.

Since then, life has been so much easier! He's no longer very grumpy during the day and he now sleeps the whole night. The health visitor suggested it and it worked. She said once you put the baby down in the cot, stay with him and reassure him (e.g. by a Shhh sound) and pat him on his tummy. Do this until he stops crying. If he cries hysterically, lift him up and start again. If he wakes up during the night, do the same thing.

In the evening after bath time Euan and I go to his room and read stories and play for a while. Then as the clock strikes 20, we put Euan in his cot and he plays there for a while and falls asleep. It's been a bit hard in the beginning as he used to start crying as soon as he starts to fall asleep but after two weeks the crying stopped and he's one happy baby. Apparently this method is called "Gradual Withdrawal".

He usually sleeps through the night and wakes up at 7 or 8 in the morning.

We got a baby monitor from Amazon for him and it's been great 10/10 points for BT 150 Digital Baby Monitor. It feels like you're still in the room with the baby.

I still cannot believe how early he moved out of our room. I missed him at first, but now that I sleep the whole night too I don't have time to miss him that much, although I run to his room for a cuddle as soon as he wakes up in the morning!

Bath Time!

Bath time should be a good time for bonding with the baby so I want to make sure that the environment is set up for this.

Changing unit

I have been looking at changing units that have a concealed bath underneath the changer. I have seen this at a friend's place but they are not very popular in the UK. However I managed to find some online. It is good for me to have one of these as I still need to get a changer and bathing the baby should be more comfortable on a unit rather than in the bath (and in the meantime take care of my back!)

The Cosatto Easi-Peasi Changing Unit Zuton fits perfectly in my tiny bathroom and it has shelves where I can store products, a few baby grows, nappies and towels. It has a drainage tube as well.

Scallywags Bath/Changing unit

Another unit that I'm looking at is Mamas & Papas - Tub Time Changing Station - Made With Lo it's only a few pounds dearer but it comes with two positions and non slip surface, a deep padded pvc changing mattress, which works on a secondary lock when lifted for added safety, with two wheels for easy manoeuvrability, Towel rail and additional wash cup.

A cheaper option would be the Scallywags Bath/Changing unit. It doesn't have any of the fancy stuff and with just one shelf you cannot use it as a storage unit but it does the job it acts both as a bath and a changer.

Hygiene for the first few weeks

At the antenatal classes I was quite confused to hear that for the first few weeks the baby doesn't need to bath and if you do it shouldn't be more than once a week in a top and tail bath (I got one with compliments of MC) :) and later on in a bath. Also, you shouldn't be using any un-natural products on the baby.

The midwife suggested gently cleaning the face with cotton wool and water and when changing nappies wiping front to back with cotton wool and water. You don't need to use anything else. Baby wipes are far too harsh for new born skin. (she said you can wipe off markers from walls with them! Handy tip for later :) ) If the baby develops dry skin or nappy rash, olive oil (or sunflower oil) should do the job as other baby creams contain far too many chemicals as does soap.

Happy Father's Day

Friday, 19 June 2009 13:57 by Mari

This time next year it'll be my husband's first Father's Day, how exciting!

So to mark this event (aaahhh) I'm going to write something about Dad gear.  We have been looking at changing bags for fathers and this means no flowers and no pink :)

I have seen the DadGear Backpacks from Amazon. They look very spacious and can be attached to the puschair. A hammock keeps nappies in place at the top of the bag for easy access. It also comes with 2 adjustable shoulder straps.

I have also come across this website http://www.dad.info which gives advice on how dads can help their partner during and after pregnancy. It is very informative and goes through finances, registering the birth, how dads can help at the birth and useful links escpecially for first time dads.

Wish all the Dads a very Happy Father's Day.
